“NORI’S PEARLY MAE OF WISKER WUV CAHILL”

AUGUST 5, 2001 – July 19, 2017

Precious, Pretty, Precocious, Perfect, Princess Pearly Mae, 15 years and11 months of age, beloved feline of Jim Hemphill and Laura Cahill, entered cat heaven by crossing the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 surrounded by her parents and Catzablanca family after enjoying an incredibly long and happy life.  Born on August 5, 2001, Jim & Laura were blessed to rescue Pearly Mae from a Burmese breeder on February 21, 2004 when she was deemed to have outlived her value as a “Queen” cat.  Pearly Mae was registered with the Cat Fancier’s Association as a Burmese Platinum (CFA–1407-1413576) born to Premier Nori’s Jumping Jack Frost (dad) and Champion Nori’s Cinnamon and Spice (mom).  Pearly Mae was a Champion feline from birth in spirit and personality.

Pearly Mae spent 2 ½ years of her life in a Middletown, CT breeder home.  She gave birth to one daughter – Champion Wisker Wuv’s Lady Grace Lyn on March 29, 2003.  Jim and Laura took Pearly Mae home to live in Glastonbury, CT and from the first day in her new home, Pearly Mae became a beloved member of our family.

While living at our first home, Pearly Mae charmed all visitors with her outgoing personality.  She loved being held on the left shoulder, cuddled inside a sweater, or resting on the antique rocking chair with a heating pad.  When perfectly contented, she would softly grunt instead of purring when cradled in in Jim or Laura’s arms.  Pearly Mae’s nickname was “Velcro” because she always wanted to be cuddled, held, and given – demanded – our undivided attention.

Affectionately known as “Squirrely Pearly”, she settled into her retirement home in 2015 when Jim and Laura moved to a 55+ community in Glastonbury.  Pearly Mae enjoyed following her parents around the house or sitting in a sunny window watching us with her huge golden eyes.  She had the unique ability to jump great heights and land so softly without a sound.  Laura took Pearly Mae outside on many occasions for “supervised exercise” to roll on her back on the front porch and walk the front yard and nearby neighborhood.  She especially enjoyed keeping her parents company on the back deck.  During one unsupervised back deck outing, Pearly Mae was almost snatched for lunch by a Red Tailed Hawk.  A quick rescue by Jim saved the day.

Pearly Mae’s favorite pastimes were toe paw massages, sitting in a sunny window sill, squeezing herself into the smallest spaces, sleeping at night between Jim and Laura under the bed covers with her head on the pillow, and taking care of Kitz with a mother’s loving care.  Pearly Mae and Kitz chased each other around the house, groomed each other until “this isn’t going to end well” time came, exchanged paw swats to sit in the same reclining chair, and jockeyed for the best place on our laps.  During her younger cat years, Pearly Mae could jump onto our bed, leap into the air, and do a 360-degree spin move before landing softly with her eyes wide open.  Her favorite foods were white meat chicken, any type of cheese but with taste buds that favored cheddar cheese, and Fancy Feast Chunky Chicken.  Never one to miss a meal, Pearly Mae responded with wide-open eyes from a sound sleep to the words “Din-Din” when it was time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Pearly Mae leaves behind Jim, Laura, James, Kitz, her Catzablanca family (a special shout out to T.J. who enjoyed lunch with Pearly Mae on his desk) and all those who knew and loved our gentle sweet cat.  Pearly Mae will be a deeply missed feline who loved her momma and dad unconditionally.

Burial took place in the front yard garden where the warm sun of the east rises in the morning and Pearly Mae’s spirit is free to roam endlessly exploring the outside world.  Lay down our dear Pearly Mae, lay down and take your rest, won’t you lay your head upon your Savior’s breast, we love you, but Jesus loves you the best, and we bid you goodnight until the day momma and dad cross the Rainbow Bridge and we are reunited in heaven.
